Apart from the regular range I produce, from time-to-time I often enjoy giving a character a non-standard look to their costume. Maybe I come across a small piece of exceptional fabric, or am inspired by something I see in a play or film.
You’ll be able to view these one-of-a-kind costumes from time to time, in this section of my website. Each one will have a descriptive certificate of authenticity, signed by myself.
Marie Antoinette
Court Dress Special Edition
(15" high)
Marie Antoinette wears a gown reflective of the splendour of the French court before the cataclysmic days of the Revolution. Inspired by the extravagant creations of her famous dress designer, Rose Bertin, the queen is depicted in a multi-layered gown of tiffany fabric in shades of gold, trimmed with fringing and satin bows with pearls at the centre. The sleeves have many rows of cream-coloured lace and the front panel of the bodice is also trimmed with lace and silk braid. The famously elaborate white-powdered coiffure is topped by a small hat trimmed with jewels and feathers, and is finished off at the back with another pearl and satin bow.
A fabulous and unique doll, Marie Antoinette has taken many hours to create and I am sure she will find a worthy home at the heart of a very special collection somewhere.
Complete with signed certificate of authenticity, Marie Antoinette features my own original sculptures cast in fine porcelain, life-like blue set-in eyes and wig made from white mohair.
